Dave's High School Poetry - 1975

Zombies

Friendship is the outer world where
  Understanding kindred roam and
Call for incoherent feelings
  Keenly placed in quiet slumber.

Don't allow you pathos humbled.
  Answer only with the real.
Let yourself go, be authentic,
Youth is wasted if it is dull.

Oh gawd.

This second poem was written on a bet by a fellow straight-A student, too wrapped up to write a poem 'on any subject'. I continued the 'hidden message' challenge, and his teacher (Mr. Daly) became part of this poetic anagram. The two word secret message was none too secret in the two four line stanzas so I offset the left margin to break up the letters, but the whole exercise was silly and ridiculous and juvenile. I was acting like a fifteen year old. Wisely, my friend refused this gift and wrote his own verse instead.
