Dave Lives through a "Bomb Scare" |
Dave |
|
|
|
Dave's first day at his client was for "prep", informal
meetings and information gathering. During a roundtable, the company
president poked his head in, mentioned ("Not to worry") but
a Bomb Threat had been phoned in. "It is a disgruntled
ex-employee, and we practically know who it is", etc etc.
"Not to worry", "Nothing to Worry about". Then
the but...
They were asked to take a 'long lunch' (2 hrs) and then to return
while the police sniffed for the bomb. Around 6pm, as everybody was
abuzz that no 'sniffer dogs' had appeared over lunch, this policeman
and his canine helper passed through and Dave had the presence of
mind to grab his camera and shoot these (no flash). Now he has proof
that crazy things happen to him on the road all the time. The next
morning, everybody had a good laugh that we had all been on the job
for the whole afternoon before the canine sniffers did their job. |

Orlando: Universal / Shuttle Launch |
All |
|
|
|
Dave had a week in Orlando scheduled and Universal studios was having
a "Florida Residents" promotion. On top of that, a shuttle
launch was scheduled. We headed to the cape on Tuesday, only to have
it delayed until Wednesday. We had seen launches in the distance from
Tampa, Miami and Orlando, but the experiece from the cape was as
spectacular was everybody says. First the vision of the totally
silent flame and lift-off, then a few seconds later the delayed sound
arriving with the ability to actually "feel" the thrust,
then the slow turn and arcing off until the small point of light
dissappears and all that is left is a trail of white smoke. It
is hard to imagine how the launch of the giant Apollo Saturn V moon
rockets might have felt at that close range. Our liftoff
expereince was even more intersting, as it occured very near sunset,
so the setting sunlight changed colors and danced across the clouds
and vapor trail until dusk became night. A very interesting experience. |
