The family tradition for baby's first birthday is to make a small
cake for baby to mush while everyone else sings and eats slices of
the 'real cake'.
Lyn's idea was to provide a grape Jell-o mold for Jesse. More fun to
play with and easier to hose off the driveway when finished. Besides,
he might even lick a little off his hands in the deal. |

I get it! I'm supposed to make a mess this time! What's the special occasion? |

Oh-oh! Where'd all the Jell-o go? |

The whole gang was there that day but this picture was always our
favorite of Dave's Dad hamming it up by the pizza. See the 'birthday
boy' finishing his lunch.
This completed Jesse's one year long doctor imposed diet of only
non-milk formula. By his first birthday, he was downing six full cans
of Isomil per day. If you listen carefully, you can actually hear his
parents sigh that they survived the ordeal. The local Toys 'R Us flew
black bunting and for the next five years all Christmas presents were
wrapped in empty Isomil cartons. |
