Nobody wanted an orange tabby, but "Pogo" (quickly renamed "Figment") came home to stay. Barney could relax now that Jesse finally had his own cat to pester. Figment proved to be perky and quizzical and gifted at getting himself locked in closets and cupboards. He would climb in Jesse's toybox, root out a toy, and bring it to the kitchen floor to amuse himself. Figment was a perfect fit for us. (Click HERE to see Figment's Home Page) Feb 1994 Dave to Grand Rapids Dave   June 1994 Brush Fire on Promentory Piont Dave A dry summer and lightning strikes caused brush fires throughout the area around Ogden. The most spectacular fires were on Prompontory point, the peninsula jutting south into the Great Salt Lake. Although the fires were just 10 or so miles across the water from us, it was over 50 miles for fire trucks to drive north, across, then back south down the peninsula. The fire was put out in just a few days.  We drove up the mountain pass lookout behind our house and shot these beautiful pictures of this amazing sight across the city and the Great Salt Lake. The flames and smoke are blended as these were 30 sec timed exposures (brush fires, not lava flows). Click HERE to enlarge this picture Click HERE to enlarge this picture Click HERE to enlarge this picture July 1994 Utah Church Events Dave   Aug 1994 Dave to Detroit - His dad is hospitalized Dave Dave's dad became suddenly ill, starting with a flu and fever and eventually ending up hospitalized. He was literally 'touch and go' when Dave received the telephone call that every out-of-town child dreads. He boarded the next plane, and arrived just in time to find the crisis had passed. As he stepped off the plane, Dave learned the story. With a fever hanging on for five days, the hospital had put Dave's dad on several drip medications, including a blood thinner. Unknown to everybody, his dad had developed a 'hemotoma', literally a dried blood clot somewhere inside the body. The clot could have come from anything, a strain, a bruise, pulling a muscle. When internal bleeding forms a scab, the white blood vessels assume the scab is a pathogen and rally to dissolve the foreign object (hence the continually raising temperature). When the blood thinner helped dissolve the internal scar, the artery broke and began bleeding internally, swelling up his dad and requiring immediate emergency surgury (lucky his dad was already in a hospital!) It was literally a 5-minute operation and requiring a small incision and only a stich or two to seal the leaky little artery. With the clot removed and mystery resolved, his dad's fever broke and he slowly recovered, and his brothers took care of mom during the six month recuperation period. Dave returned to Utah the next day, quizzical and befuddled, having arrived just in time to miss the emergency. Sept 1994 Lyn to Florida for Scouting Lyn   Oct 1994 Lyn's Parents Visit #2 All   Nov 1994 Idaho week-end visit to Janet and Ken All Before leaving Utah, we drove up to Driggs, ID to visit Ken & Janet on their ranch.
