Happy Holidays! I guess its that time of year when we look back and evaluate all that has happened in our lives. Its also a time to try and touch base with those who have made a difference in our lives and who continue to be in our thoughts and hearts.

Jesse is 14 years old this year.  I always have to sit back and sigh when I say that. It was some time this last year when he passed me in height and has taken great delight in constantly reminding me by tosseling my hair and patting me on the top of my head whenever he gets a chance. I did get some satisfaction at the end of 2001 when I looked up one day to see that he and his Dad where the same height. They now stand shoulder to shoulder, and when they "wrestle" around the house both the cat and I run for cover. I get a kick out of reminding Dave that his time is coming soon, he will no longer be the biggest guy in the house. (Dave actually sulks about this at times, that testostrosone thing I guess, and Jesse is doing a lot of whooyaa's) It's funny to watch the two of them together these days. A lot of times its hard to tell who is teaching who more.

Jesse is taking classes at the community college and will be learning how to drive some time this coming year. I am actually looking forward to it. He has a very level head on his shoulders and has, for years, been my conscience when it comes to keeping a cool head, reminding me to control my temper. He has grown up to be a very kind, compassionate young man. We both are very proud of his independence and individuality. (Although there are times when I have to shake my head and mutter my repentance about helping Dave to reproduce.) Sometimes the resemblance between the two of them is way too scary.

I made some really nice friends this year from the homeschool group. It is nice to be able to go out now and then with some women  friends and get a feminine point of view on the world. (You know, where people actually can end conversations without elbowing each other or mimicking body sounds and calling each other names) I enjoy going to ladies lunch out now and then although shopping is still not my cup of tea. (But they keep trying to train me)

I have been experiencing some health problems this year. I have a rare type of tumor that  causes adrenaline spikes and secretes hormones when any pressure is applied to it. The problem is finding it. It seems they can be hard to locate. . . oh great. . . but we keep trying and I am becoming quite familiar with the ins and outs of nuclear medicine scans. Once we find it, the cure is to have it surgically removed and your symptoms will disappear.  The problem is finding the tiny little bugger. Anyway the guys, in the meantime, take great delight in jumping out at me to see if they can get my adrenaline to spike. . . needless to say I have done my best to extinguish this behavior and they are actually almost repentant about their actions these days. (when Mom is unhappy and nauseus everyone is).

So for me, the coming year should resolve a lot of these open issues. Jesse should make the transition from dabbling to full-fledged home-based education (hopefully with 5 college classes under his belt by this time next year). My health should be resolved one way or the other. Either we'll find the damn thing and have it out or give up on it and focus on treating symptoms and getting my overall metabolism under control. Dave's job is sort of hanging in limbo with the lousy economy. Hopefully business (and the stock) will pick up and he will once again be as busy as just before the Y2K rollover.

Warmest Wishes for 2002 to all of our friends. Please write and let us know how you are. As always, if you expect to be in the neighborhood, drop us a note and we will clear the decks to spend time with you. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Lyn
