 We
took Monday as a quite day, as Dave headed back to work, and Lyn and
Jesse were exhausted from the walking, the late hours, and the
painfully cold rain. They had take-out from a nearby Thai restaurant
and swam in the Embassy pool. When Dave returned, we had a simple
dinner at nearby Portillo's, famous for its hot dogs. |
|
Tuesday
found Dave back at work, and Lyn and Jesse strapping on their shoes
for a museum outing. They headed out and found the Contemporary Art
Museum and we all head to listen to Jesse make fun of the different
room-size exhibits. Only thirteen but already an art critic. It was a
simple lunch at the food court. |

When Dave got home from work we all headed on to the famous Chicago
Institue of Arts, and our family's favorite painting: George Seurat's
" Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte". Jesse
enjoyed the paintings but spent extra time in all the gallariess that
we usually skip (medieval armor, egytion mummies).
Or course, the Chicago Institute has dozens of "famous"
paintings including a gallary full of French impressionists and
"American Gothic" and Edward Hopper pictured below. |

Dave got in trouble by accidentally setting off the flash |
Jesse had not known about this rather famous painting |

Dave arranged for us to have dinner with several of his students.
Although the client was a Chicago based company, a set of students
were attending from China, and another from their European office in
Austia. Dave arragned for the Austrians to join us for Chicago pizza
and we heard lots of stories about the lives so near the Alps.
Whenever possible, we try to expose Jesse to that "wide
world" out there. |
