It was a simple day. We started in Centralia, Washington (south of
Tacoma) and drove south to Mt St Helens, then onto Portland, Oregon.
A quick twenty minute tour of Centralia provided us coffee but no
bagels but these pictures of the interesting murals. Click

When we arrived at Mt St Helens, the cloud cover was complete with
wisps of rain. Oh well. The dioramas and newsreel presentations in
the visitor center were very
informative and the guides there provided us with a nice pack of
information when we mentioned that we were home schooling. The clouds
parted, just a little, and for only 5 minutes. This picture was the
best of the bunch, as the mountaintop went briefly to 'partially
obscured' from 'totally obscured'.

After Mt St Helens, we drove south to Portland (in the drizzly rain).
We cruised by the airport (to pick up postcards) and then drove back
and forth around downtown, getting oriented for the morning. We found
the pedestrian mall and the statue of "Portlandia" and the
downtown park. These were all items Dave had seen in his one day
business trip several years previously. We found our hotel, stopped
by a mall (briefly) then ended up eating dinner at a Stuart
Anderson's (always delicious Prime Rib). |
